Should I assume that I have COVID-19 because I have a rash?

The short answer to this question is “no.” Rashes are very common and may be caused by various infections, heat, allergens, immune system disorders or even medications.

However, given increasing study of this area and mounting evidence that there may be some connection between the coronavirus and skin rashes, we have put together a list of the reported skin manifestations of COVID-19 below.

Morbilliform

Diffuse maculopapular eruption seen in COVID-19 patients in Italy, France and Finland as seen in many viral exanthems including Dengue.

Petechial

Italian study reported petechial eruption in COVID-19 confirmed patients from bleeding under the skin.

Rivedo Reticularis

Transient blanching or mottling of the skin from ischemia of cutaneous blood vessels.

Vesicular

Chicken pox-like vesicles on erythematous base seen in COVID-19 patients in Italy.

Urticaria (Hives)

Urticarial wheals were reported in COVID-19 patients in Italy and have been observed in confirmed as well as suspected cases in France, Finland, and the United States.

Acral Ischemia

Micro-thrombi caused by COVID-19 cause acral ischemic lesions resembling perniosis, that are often painful or itchy. This has been referred to as “COVID toes” in the mainstream press and has been seen in many healthcare workers in the United States.

Affordable And Transparent Pricing

Most insurance plans cover Video Visits, also known as “telehealth” or “telemedicine” visits. However, if your claim is denied by your insurance carrier, or if you have no insurance or an insurance plan we do not accept, you will only be responsible for a maximum payment of $75, which includes the cost of any copayments you may have made prior to your visit.

To ensure you get the care you need, Walk-in Dermatology participates in a wide range of health plans and accepts most major insurance providers.
